Visit to SpringStone Montisauri School

Hey everyone, Sage here, ready to talk about my second outing as an animal Ambassador for Wild Adventures Zoo!

This was only my second time out, so I have to say I was a little nervous.  We went to visit the Springstone Montisauri School and there were a ton of kids to play with!

Everyone was so nice to us, we all got pet so gently!!

We got to come out a few times and play, so that was nice. Plus we got to explore the room too!  Sooooo much fun!!

There's an outside?! - by the kinkajou family

Today our mom put our harness and leash on (both of which we aren't thrilled about), and we thought we'd be running around the house and having fun, getting into things and making a mess, but that didn't happen.

Did you know there's an outside! There's so much more to explore!!

We went outside and went CRAZY!!  We had so much fun running around the backyard. We were told we would be brought to the park if we do well with our harness.  The park? what is that!? it sounds so awesome!!

It was hard to get any pictures of us, because we were running around so much, all the pictures came out fuzzy.

YAY! Can't wait for the park!!

My adventures in the jungle - by Iberico the Short Tailed Opossum

I was taken from my cage, for a little roam around the room, or so I thought.  But instead of hanging out on my mom's shoulder, or walking around on the carpet, I was moved to a mysterious jungle.

I was put in a tree with bright green leaves, they didn't taste good, kind of like plastic. I was placed high atop the tree and as I gazed out over the horizon, there was a bright flash and a click and then a giggle from my mom!  She took my picture!!

I climbed up and down the tree, couldn't figure out how to get to the ground, it felt like the tree lasted forever as I walked down it.

Playing for a little in the tree, I then got taken back to my enclosure, I can't wait to play again tomorrow and explore another part of the mysterious jungle!

Our new home by the Kinkajou Family

We were very sad to have to leave outer daddy, but thankfully he looked for a great home and we ended up at Wild Adventures Zoo

As you can see, we have an entire room to ourselves and are never locked in a cage. And there is a ton to entertain us!!

We consist of Sage, who is the mommy of Agave (the boy) and his sister Blossom, who was born with a leg deformity but gets around just fine and is super active

Mom is very shy, me, Agave, I'm a little rambunctious and love to explore everything and my sister Blossom is the little lover

For those of you who don't know what a Kinkajou is, we are from Central and South America and are related to the raccoon family.

We have prehensile tails that are very thick, so we can grab into things and hang from them, or even be picked up by them

We are nocturnal and love fruits. We are also called the Honey Bear. Our new family named us after types of honey

We can't wait to learn how to be harnessed and taken to the park
And other places to meet other nice people!!

Can't wait to meet you!!

Sugar glider jungle gym

So mom made us a jungle gym in the animal room.

She stretched rope all across the ceiling so we can climb from our cage to a shelf across the room and all over the ceiling back to the cage again

Every night we play on it and with everything else we can find.

We climb over Mascarpone and Canoli's enclosures and say HI too

It's been a lot of fun and poops us out!!

Hanging out with the Guinea Pigs

This weekend was Guinea Pig weekend. We spent most of it cuddling, playing and just chillaxing with the Guinea Pigs.

They are so soft and cuddly!!

Hedgehog bath time

I cannot say I was thrilled with being bathed the other day. But my spines and feet were a little dirty.

I poop on my wheel at night while I run, even though mom cleans it every morning, I manage to make it a mess by the end of the night. So that probably doesn't help!!

Meeting Mascarpone the Hedgehog

Canoli here. Today I met Mascarpone. He's a male Hedgehog who has come to live with us. If I like him you might see babies in the future

But we'll see. Because us Hedgehogs are solitary in nature. So they may have to take Mascarpone out of my enclosure and give him his own until I'm ready to have babies.

Right now he keeps bugging me by sniffing me!!

I'll keep you posted though!

Cleaning

FYI... Tonight was clean mommy night. I sat on her shoulder and kept licking her. She kept putting food on her finger to give to me but she tasted better.

Canoli's Tumble

Warning: if you catch a falling Hedgehog, her spines will puncture you!

Canoli tried to walk off someone and I caught her. She immediately rolled onto a ball ( because hedgehogs can fall up to 7 ft and will be protected by their spines). Her spines punctured my skin a little. And boy was it itchy

The itchy effect is another one if their defense mechanisms. You would think that their spines (or quills) would be enough, but NOOOO they add to it by anointing, which means they will eat something and then make a foam in their mouth, then lick their quills.  This way, if someone wants to try to eat them, they not only get the spines, but they'll also get whatever poison they have on their quills.

Since we dont have any poison for her to get into, she just uses whatever she eats.  The reason we itch when she climbs on us and her spines are up and not relaxed, is because she has small pieces of dirt and food all over the tips, and it gets under our skin and itches.  It goes away within about 5 mins.

She's fine though, she only fell about 2 inches lol.

Coconut's playtime with daddy

I LOVE. To crawl all over daddy at night. I like to stick my nose in his ears and then nibble on him (he won't let mom take a picture). But it makes him laugh because it tickles :P. Then I climb all over him. Sometimes I eat some of my dinner on him too. Check out these pictures!
